The dirty little secret behind net neutrality
You may not be aware the FCC passed new regulations on the Internet the end of last month. You probably have no idea what those regulations are. And that’s the way the FCC commissioner wanted it.
Under the innocuous-sounding “net neutrality,” the liberal majority, 5-person commission quietly passed sweeping regulations of the Internet designed to turn it into a government-regulated commodity.
Only today was the 400-page document released publicly, and now we know why it had to be kept secret. The real agenda becomes clear when you understand who was pushing so hard for the regulations.
Free Press, an activist group heavily funded by George Soros was instrumental in pushing the FCC to regulate the Internet, and in fact is cited 46 times in the document regarding its arguments supporting more regulation.
But there’s nothing really “free” about the real intentions of Free Press.
As the Daily Caller reports, “one of Free Press’ co-founders, Robert McChesney, a communications professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, has not been shy about his desire to see the Internet regulated heavily.”
“But Internet regulation appears to be only part of McChesney’s more radical agenda of completely revamping how the media operate in the U.S.”
“In the end, there is no real answer but to remove brick by brick the capitalist system itself, rebuilding the entire society on socialist principles,” McChesney wrote in a 2009 essay.”
So what is the true design of these regulations? As we reported previously, there appears to be a concerted effort by both the FCC and the FEC to eventually control content.
Phil Kerpen, president of the free-market group American Commitment, wrote an open letter to McChesney after the regulation was passed saying, “The unthinkable has become thinkable, and the free-market Internet – one of freedom’s greatest triumphs – is set to be reduced to a public utility, subject to pervasive economic regulation and, in turn, to content control.”
We are truly living in an Orwellian society where Newspeak is being forced upon us. Net NEUTRALITY? There is nothing neutral about government control.
