VA Scandal: This Is What Death Panels Look Like

VA Scandal: This Is What Death Panels Look Like

Health ImageThe Veterans Administration hospital scandal that has claimed the lives of at least 40 U.S. military veterans continues to expand, adding to the image of a president who neither knows nor cares what happens to those who shed their blood on the battlefield for their fellow Americans.

With a little under six months before the crucial midterm elections, it is a helpful reminder to voters of the horrors that are not glitches, but essential features, of government-provided health care. The problems at the VA are omens, sneak previews of what the delivery of all health care in America will look like under Obamacare, and so it is fortuitous that the scandal should surface now.

President Obama is predictably, perfunctorily, outraged about these bad things that have been happening in the government he controls. He is shocked and promises to get to the bottom of the issue and do better in the future. It is tedious stuff.

The happenings at the VA are also more evidence, Obama critics say, that the president despises the military. Obama has been moving to reduce soldier pay and benefits and hollow out the military to mid-century staff levels. He has also been going on a human resources rampage, firing flag officers at a rate that alarms military observers. And like any good leftist, Obama believes that the only good American soldier is one who is functioning as a social worker, not a war-fighter.

Meanwhile, Obama VA officials have been working overtime covering up the various waiting list atrocities that have been popping up cross the country.

A whistleblower who exposed the waiting list scandal in Fort Collins, Colorado, says she was suspended after she refused to falsify records.

Lisa Lee, who was employed at that clinic, said she was placed on two weeks of unpaid leave for not following a directive that involved “cooking the books” on scheduling medical appointments to create the false impression that appointments were made closer to the time veterans requested.

“Why are they throwing me under the bus when I’m trying to say what the problem is?”

At least 40 U.S. veterans have died waiting for appointments at the Phoenix, Ariz., Veterans Affairs Health Care system, CNN reported April 30. Many of the dead had been put on a secret waiting list.

That list was reportedly part of an elaborate scheme designed by Veterans Administration officials who were attempting to conceal the fact that between 1,400 and 1,600 sick veterans were forced to wait months to see a physician.

The VA requires its hospitals to provide care to patients in a timely manner, usually within 14 to 30 days, according to Dr. Sam Foote who just retired after working at the Phoenix facility for 24 years. He said officials destroyed evidence to cover up the existence of the bogus waiting list.

VA officials “wouldn’t take you off that secret list until you had an appointment time that was less than 14 days so it would give the appearance that they were improving greatly the waiting times, when in fact they were not,” Foote said.

Foote said the waiting times in Phoenix that were reported to VA headquarters in Washington were make-believe. “So then when they did that, they would report to Washington, ‘Oh yeah. We’re makin’ our appointments within — within 10 days, within the 14-day frame,’ when in reality it had been six, nine, in some cases 21 months,” he said.

Like the Benghazi scandal and the IRS targeting of conservative and Tea Party nonprofits, the VA scandal has legs.

Yet President Obama, who nowadays seems barely aware of what his administration is doing, claimed through a spokesman that he learned about this controversy that is rocking his administration from news reports.

It cannot be true. In fact Obama’s team was briefed on the long-running problems at the VA by the outgoing Bush administration during the transition process in 2008.

The Washington Times obtained government documents under the Freedom of Information Act (FoIA) that showed that the “Obama administration received clear notice more than five years ago that VA medical facilities were reporting inaccurate waiting times and experiencing scheduling failures that threatened to deny veterans timely health care.”

VA officials told the Obama-Biden transition team in the weeks following Obama’s election that the agency should not rely on the waiting times that VA facilities were reporting.

“This is not only a data integrity issue in which [Veterans Health Administration] reports unreliable performance data; it affects quality of care by delaying — and potentially denying — deserving veterans timely care,” the officials wrote.

Of course, if the Obama administration had simply failed to do anything about the problem, that would be one thing, but Obama officials doctored government records to airbrush the problem away. This is why patient advocates and lawmakers are demanding the head of the guy in charge, the hapless Veterans Affairs secretary, Eric Shinseki.

Shinseki testified before a congressional panel last week and came across as being out of his depth, claiming he was as angry about the deadly bureaucratic bungling as anyone. Maybe he was sincere; maybe he wasn’t.

A lapdog and a yes man for the Obama White House, Shinseki has retired from the armed forces. But there was no need for him to step down from the Pentagon. Shinseki is the ideal Obama general: left-wing, incompetent, obedient to the point of servility, and a member of an identifiable minority group.

History shows pretty conclusively that governments are very, very bad at providing health care services and the Veterans Administration has a long, inglorious history of patient abuse and neglect that has stretched out over decades.

The VA system is outdated and doomed. It cannot work. Like Obamacare, it is based on the insane notion that medical services can be provided effectively outside of markets.

Obamacare, as people seem to be realizing, is just like the VA system and government-run systems abroad. These lethal queues are an everyday occurrence in United Kingdom and Canada where news headlines about the failings of socialized medicine keep teams of reporters busy.

Politicians in those countries are continually outraged by government health care failures. They tell voters they will fix the problems. Yet somehow the problems never get fixed. Everyone is just a number.

Those who are honest about what happens in those countries acknowledge that those individuals and groups with political clout get the best treatment; those without, suffer and die prematurely. If your medical malady lacks political sex appeal, too bad for you.

The provision of health care inevitably degenerates into interest group warfare among epidemiological lobbies.

It is useful to think of a variation of the old tax collector’s adage, that one about getting the greatest amount of feathers with the least amount of squawking. In this case, politicians and bureaucrats, instead of consumers and providers, function as health care allocators.

Their task, whether they are aware of it or not, becomes taking away the greatest amount of benefits so that it results in the least amount of squawking from patients.

This is the essence of the Obamacare-mandated “death panels” about which Sarah Palin wisely cautioned her countrymen.

The Veterans Administration scandal is a dire warning to the American public about what awaits them if the Obamacare train is not soon derailed.

GOP STRATEGY TO WIN BLAMEZ ANGLE AND AKIN

How GOP incumbents beat Tea Party rebellion

WASHINGTON — Maybe the GOP establishment has figured out the Tea Party.

Voters sided with business-oriented, mainstream Republicans in key states Tuesday night, picking nominees who have a better chance of winning in November than some Tea Party insurgents of he past. By doing so, the GOP is fielding a team that could help the party reclaim the power that eluded them in the 2010 and 2012 elections.

Some lessons learned from the most consequential primaries to date:

Republicans can outfox their own: Call it the Orrin Hatch Rule, named for the Utah senator who won a seventh term in 2012. When conservatives on Hatch's right came out hard to defeat the veteran GOP lawmaker, he focused early to win their support. The same can be said for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who assiduously courted his Kentucky colleague (and Tea Party darling) Rand Paul and hired a campaign manager with Tea Party cred.

McConnell easily beat challenger Matt Bevin to win renomination, but the tougher test will come in the general election against Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes. Now, McConnell "has to establish a certain amount of political distance from his Tea Party opponent but at the same time try to demonstrate that he embraces some of their key issues," said Ernest Yanarella, chairman of the political science department at the University of Kentucky.

STORY: Women, blacks hold key for Dems in marquee races

Business and centrist groups were ready: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce was a big winner Tuesday night, backing McConnell and successful candidates in Georgia, Idaho, Oregon and Pennsylvania. The National Realtors Association and National Retail Federation also helped eight-term GOP Rep. Mike Simpson in Idaho beat back a Tea Party challenger.

Former Ohio congressman Steve LaTourette, head of the Defending Main Street PAC that also helped Simpson, said "the game is up" on conservative groups that are going after GOP incumbents. Tea Party ally Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks for America, which was out to defeat McConnell, argues that conservatives won the war by getting mainstream Republicans to embrace their agenda. "It's clear that there is a larger cultural shift happening here," Kibbe said.

Justin Barasky, a spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said the outcome Tuesday in the GOP primaries will help his party. "Unlike 2010 and 2012, in order to avoid losing to the Tea Party, Washington Republicans have embraced their candidates and policies," Barasky said. "It's a good strategy in the primaries, but not in the general election."

Personal wealth was helpful: In Georgia, former Reebok and Dollar General CEO David Perdue spent more than $2 million of his own money to become the top-vote getter in a crowded GOP field for Senate. Will Perdue be spending freely in his July 22 runoff against 11-term Rep. Jack Kiingston, who was backed by the Chamber? Georgians expect the run-off will be an expensive barn-burner that could help Democrat Michelle Nunn claim the seat of retiring GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss in the fall.

"Both of the candidates who make the run-off will go in and spend every nickel they can lay their hands on," said Charles Bullock, a political scientist at the University of Georgia. "Come July 23, the Republican nominee will come limping out. The challenge will be that whoever wins will have to put the party back together."

In the most competitive Democratic race of Tuesday night, businessman Tom Wolf spent about $10 million of his own money to win his party's nomination for Pennsylvania governor. The former Revenue secretary for Gov. Ed Rendell blanketed the airwaves early and introduced himself to voters across the state. Wolf easily defeated Rep. Allyson Schwartz, the early Democratic primary favorite, and two other candidates for the right to take on vulnerable GOP Gov. Tom Corbett in the fall.

Game on for November: In Kentucky, Georgia, Arkansas and Oregon, voters on Tuesday set up general election battles that could help determine which party controls the Senate. Republicans need a net gain of six seats to oust Harry Reid and the Democrats from power.

Business and Tea Party groups are betting on GOP Rep. Tom Cotton in Arkansas to unseat Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas. Both were unopposed in Tuesday's primary. Surgeon Monica Wehby is being touted as a viable candidate against freshman Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley in Oregon -- which only recently became a race to watch. Even though there is a GOP runoff in Georgia, both Perdue and Kingston are considered stronger candidates against Democrat Michelle Nunn than their Republican rivals.

The key is for the GOP to avoid the missteps of 2010 and 2012, when Tea Party candidates such as Sharron Angle in Nevada and Todd Akin in Missouri lost winnable races with weak campaigns and missteps.

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION SCANDAL MONTAGE (HE'S REALLY MAD)

Montage: Obama Just Found Out About (Insert Scandal Here) and He's Really Mad

RUSH: We went back and put together a montage starting in March of 2009 through May of last year of Obama. This is the Limbaugh Theorem on display here.  This is Obama's "I'm madder than you are." This is Obama when he first learns about these things and how he does it, how he treats it, how he reacts to it, and how mad he is.

OBAMA MAY 15, 2013: It's inexcusable, and Americans are right to be angry about it, and I am angry about it.

OBAMA OCTOBER 21, 2013: Nobody's madder than me about the fact that the website isn't workin'.

OBAMA OCTOBER 18, 2011: It's very upsetting to me that somebody showed such bad judgment, that they would allow something like that to happen.

OBAMA APRIL 15, 2012: If it turns out some of the allegations that have been made in the press are confirmed, then of course I'll be angry.

OBAMA MAY 13, 2013:  I've got no patience with it, I will not tolerate it, and we'll make sure that, uh, we find out exactly what happened.

OBAMA JUNE 3, 2010: I am furious at this entire situation. I would love to just spend a lot of my time venting and yellin' at people.

OBAMA MAY 15, 2013: We're going to hold the responsible parties accountable.

OBAMA MAY 16, 2013: The minute I found out about it, then my main focus is making sure that we get the thing fixed.

OBAMA MARCH 18, 2009: I think people are right to be angry.  I'm angry!

RUSH:  Every one of those is about a separate issue, and I will tell you which issue he was reacting to after this.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: All right.  I want to replay for you the montage where you heard Obama talking about how mad he was and he's gonna get to the bottom of it.  I mentioned to you that not one was repeated; they're all different things. Some are the same issues twice, but they're all different statements.  Let's start again.

The first one is May 15th of last year talking about the IRS scandal and the Tea Party.

OBAMA MAY 15, 2013: It's inexcusable, and Americans are right to be angry about it, and I am angry about it.

RUSH:  Stop the tape.  Next one, this is the Obamacare rollout fiasco, October 21, 2013.

OBAMA OCTOBER 21, 2013: Nobody's madder than me about the fact that the website isn't workin'.

RUSH:  Up next, Fast and Furious, October 18, 2011.

OBAMA OCTOBER 18, 2011: It's very upsetting to me that somebody showed such bad judgment, that they would allow something like that to happen.

RUSH:  Up next, Secret Service scandal, drunk on the job, partying and so forth.  April 15, 2012.

OBAMA APRIL 15, 2012: If it turns out some of the allegations that have been made in the press are confirmed, then of course I'll be angry.

RUSH:  He really mad.  IRS targeting scandal, May 13, 2013.

OBAMA MAY 13, 2013:  I've got no patience with it, I will not tolerate it, and we'll make sure that, uh, we find out exactly what happened.

RUSH:  The Gulf oil spill, BP, June 3, 2010.

OBAMA JUNE 3, 2010: I am furious at this entire situation. I would love to just spend a lot of my time venting and yellin' at people.

RUSH:  IRS targeting scandal again.  This is May 15, 2013.

OBAMA MAY 15, 2013: We're going to hold the responsible parties accountable.

RUSH:  And there is a couple more.  One is the IRS scandal again. The final one was bonuses on Wall Street in 2009.  So, you see, this is the pattern.  He's mad.  Every one of these scandals, he never knew they were happening -- and when he found out, boy, was he mad!

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: We have the final two items in our montage.  And again this is March of 2009 through May of 2013.  The next to last one in our montage is from May 16th of 2013, the president really outraged when he learned even more about how the IRS was targeting the Tea Party.

OBAMA MAY 16, 2013:  The minute I found out about it, then my main focus is making sure that we get the thing fixed.

RUSH:  The minute he found out about it.  Now, remember, it was just a couple of rogue agents in the Cincinnati office.  He found out about that and he was livid.  Now, you remember at the time that scandal was going on, people were looking for the smoking-gun memo from the White House to IRS to try to connect it.  I presciently told you there would not be a smoking-gun memo or any other kind of memo because a memo wasn't necessary.  The people at the IRS are there, put there by Obama agents, meaning fellow travelers in the administration, because they know who they are, they know what they're gonna do, they know what their proclivities are.  They don't need instruction.

In other words, they don't need to be told, "The Tea Party is a problem. We gotta make sure they are impeded in fundraising. We've gotta put up obstacles."  They don't have to tell 'em that.  Lois Lerner is in her own right a mad, partisan liberal who, if she gets the idea that the climate's right, she'll act on her own. If she thinks that no harm will come to her, if she thinks that she's impressing the boss, if she thinks she can get away with it, she'll follow her natural inclinations.

Van Jones, same thing.  I remember when he was outed as a communist sympathizer, people said, "Gee, how did he get past Obama?  I wonder if Obama knew."  No, no.  That's not how it works.  Van Jones was chosen precisely because of the way he is and precisely because he didn't need direction.  None of these people do.  They're just as committed ideologically as Obama is.  All they need is to know that there aren't any obstacles in their way.  All they need to know is that if the worst thing happens and they are discovered, that this is gonna be the result, that Obama's gonna feign ignorance. He's gonna act like he had no idea it was going on. He's livid as he can be, and he's gonna look into it.

And nothing else happens because the mission, as far as the president's concerned, is simply let the low-information crowd know he's outraged like everybody else is. He's gonna get to the bottom of it. He's gonna find out what happened, and that's it; that's enough.  There doesn't need to be any follow-up on whatever investigation.  There doesn't need to be presidential action dealing with whatever was learned, because reality is not the point.  Image, PR, buzz, packaging, all that is the point.

The image that Obama's mad and is really offended and he was not told that people hoodwinked him and they're taking advantage of him and he's gonna get to the bottom of it, that's it, that's all that needs to happen. And then it is confirmed that he's got good intentions, and he really cares, and he's really upset about this, like you are.

You're not supposed to say, "Well, wait a minute now, you're the CEO. I mean, you're running this show.  What do you mean, you don't know?"  You're not supposed to ask, "I mean, you ran on these issues.  You ran on all this stuff."  You're not supposed to go there and ask that.  His media doesn't.  So it's left to people like us to talk about this and we never know what kind of impact it makes on people.

This montage, I got a note from a friend that said it ought to be on every cable news network and network evening newscast tonight.  But it won't be.  Our montage, our little montage just exposes the phoniness, the contrived anger, the made-up outrage about all of this.  It exposes it.  There's a pattern here and how it all works.  We have one left.  This is March the 18th, 2009.  This is Obama really, really mad about all those bonuses at AIG and other firms on Wall Street.

OBAMA MARCH 18, 2009:  I think people are right to be angry.  I'm angry.

RUSH:  Yeah!  See? (imitating Obama) "People have a right to be mad.  I'm mad, too.  I'm gonna investigate, get to bottom of it."  Washington Post: "This memo shows that the VA knew of records manipulation in 2010." What's noteworthy about that?  Well, 2010 was the second year of the Obama administration.  Now, let me tackle a question that I haven't got yet but I'm sure when I check the e-mail during the break I'm gonna get it, "Rush, why are you making a big deal out of this?  This has not mattered anymore.  People don't look at Obama the same way they do other presidents, so he's not gonna be hurt by this.  Why are you focusing on this?  Why are you making a big deal out of this?"

Believe me, I ask myself the same the question.  But we don't know that it isn't having an impact on people.  I mean, I clearly know that people like you in this audience, it affects you, you're angered by it, and it helps to expose Obama for who he really is, and it exposes a tactic or a technique.  Who knows what impact any of this kind of exposure or exposing of this kind of behavior has on low-information people.  You never know.  But it'd be irresponsible not to point this stuff out.

And here's another question I'm gonna get.  "Rush, the president can't know everything that goes on.  He can't know everything.  He's got rogue employees at the IRS doing things. He's got this VA thing. He can't possibly know. Why are you holding him accountable?"  Because everything that is happening can be linked ideologically to who Obama is, particularly Obamacare, the VA.  But you know the big umbrella thing under which all of this falls is that government is incompetent.

Giant bureaucracies cannot do these things.  They're not filled with qualified people.  They're not filled with experienced people.  They're not populated by accomplished people.  The lesson of government is that it can't do these things.  And the evidence is repeating in the Obama administration.  Over and over again we learn that Obama nor any of his people high up in whatever bureaucracy can accomplish any of these things.  They can't do a website. They can't roll out Obamacare. They can't improve health care. They can't run the VA. They can't run the IRS honestly. They turn as much of it as they can into a political weapon furthering the agenda of the president.

That's why it matters, because the people of this country at some point are gonna have to realize that relying on government to fix everything is foolhardy.  It's government that's breaking many of these things.  But the left has done a very admirably good job of demonizing the private sector, where what happens?  Cheating, lying, dishonesty, destroying the planet, killing customers, starving people. And they've positioned themselves, of course, as the great compassionate last hope.  They're the ones who truly care.

We're not supposed to examine the results of their efforts, which are always dismal and always fail.  We're supposed to examine their good intentions.  "At least they're trying.  People like you, Limbaugh, you just run people down every day.  Well, anybody can do that.  At least Obama cares.  At least he's trying.  I heard him.  He was really mad over this VA thing."  Why don't you ask yourself how in the world, after five or six years, do all of these things, from the economy to health care to the VA to the IRS, you name it, get worse?  At some point, at some point people -- and I think it's happening -- are gonna have to realize, this is not accidental.

The economy and its dismal status is the result of policy decisions that Obama has made and put into place.  It's not the quirk of fate.  It's not that America's best days are over.  It's not that America's past was a fad or a quirk.  It's not that the great economic days of the eighties were illegitimate or unreal.  It's not that this is the new normal.  It's not that all of the greatness in the past was undeserved.  It is precisely because of Obama policies implemented since 2009 that this country is in the shape it's in.  It is the result of policy, legislation, if you will, executive orders, things Obama has done because he wanted to do them.

What is the number I saw yesterday?  The record number of people on disability.  (interruption)  The population of Greece.  But every metric or measurement in our economy is worsening, and it's the result of policy.  And so is what's happening at the VA.  Everything about this scandal is the result of Obama administration policy, and that's why it is a flat-out, insulting joke when the president goes on TV and acts shocked and surprised that he didn't know this was going on and that now that he does, he's gonna get to the bottom of it, after an investigation, 'cause he's just as mad as you are.  That is fatuous.  That is sophistry.

The fact of the matter is that what's going on at the VA is because of policy.  It's because of things Obama and his administration have done, purposefully.  Ditto Obamacare and health care.  Ditto the economy and the unemployed.  Ditto everything.  And there isn't anything good.  The Democrats are not seeking reelection on anything good.  And everything bad that's happening is the result of Democrats having won elections and implementing their beliefs.  It's not fate.  It's not by accident.  It's not coincidence.  It's not the result of cosmic forces working against us.  It is because specifically of policies, legislation, ideas, whatever you want to call it, implemented, put into action by this administration.

And that's why we all try to point out the phoniness of the president acting mad and ignorant and outraged as though he doesn't know any of this is happening and he doesn't know why it's happening, and he's gonna get to the bottom of it.  He knows exactly why it's happening.  He put it all into play.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  We've added to the montage.  We've added today's Obama outrage over what he learned just today from Eric Shinseki about what's been going on -- what's allegedly going on -- at the VA.  He just found out about it today, so we've added today's outrage to the montage. Here it is again, starting March of 2009.

I'm angry!

OBAMA MAY 21, 2014:  I will not stand for it, not as commander-in-chief ... None of us should. [I]t's dishonorable, it is disgraceful, and I will not tolerate it. Period.

RUSH:  So that last one is today's outrage over the VA -- which he didn't know anything about until today when he talked to Eric Shinseki -- and he didn't know about any of these other things.  But again, he knew about them all.  They are all the result of Obama policy.  They're all the result of things Obama has done, plain and simple.

Fired for Testifying That Men Sleeping With Men Is a Danger to Public Health

Top Medical Professor Brendan Bain Fired for Testifying That Men Sleeping With Men Is a Danger to Public Health; Protest Erupts
Brendan BainProfessor Brendan Bain.

Professor Brendan Bain, one of the Caribbean's pioneers in clinical infectious disease practice and a leading medical authority on the HIV epidemic in the region, was fired by the University of the West Indies this week for testifying that men sleeping with men is a danger to individual and public health.

Bain who served as director of the Regional Coordinating Unit of the Caribbean HIV/AIDS Regional Training (CHART) Network gave his testimony on behalf of a group of churches that lobbied to retain Belize's sodomy law in 2012.

CHART works to "continually strengthen the capacity of national healthcare personnel and systems to provide access to quality HIV & AIDS prevention, care, treatment, and support services for all Caribbean people."

Professor Bain, who reportedly opened Jamaica's first medical clinic dedicated to the care and treatment of persons living with HIV/AIDS, is a practicing Christian who serves as an elder at the Mona Heights Chapel in Kingston, Jamaica.

"The issue in question arose about two years ago in a high-profile case in Belize in which Caleb Orozco, a gay man in Belize, challenged the constitutionality of an 1861 law that criminalizes men having sex with men (MSM). Professor Brendan Bain provided a Statement on behalf of a group of churches seeking to retain the 1861 Law," explained the University of the West Indies in a statement on Bain's dismissal Tuesday.

"Many authorities familiar with the Brief presented believe that Professor Bain's testimony supported arguments for retention of the law, thereby contributing to the continued criminalization and stigmatization of MSM. This opinion is shared by the lesbian, gay and other groups who are served by CHART," it continued.

In his testimony, a copy of which is provided at the end of this report, Bain, based on his decades of research and experience in the field, presented high risk factors associated with men sleeping with other men and argued that as a public health practitioner, behavior which poses serious costs and risks to public health should not be encouraged.

"This report shows that the relative risk of contracting HIV is significantly higher among men who have sex with other men (MSM) in Belize than in the general population. This is also true in several other countries for which data are available, including countries that have repealed the law that criminalizes anal sex and countries where the law still applies," Bain noted in the summary of his testimony.

"This report also shows clearly that HIV should not be the only consideration in relation to the matter at hand. Available data from several parts of the world indicate that the relative risk of acquiring and spreading other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and cancers is unacceptably high among MSM when compared to other men and women," he added.

The university argued, however, that criminalizing men having sex with men is not a position supported by most HIV and public health experts.

"The majority of HIV and public health experts believe that criminalizing men having sex with men and discriminating against them violates their human rights, puts them at even higher risk, reduces their access to services, forces the HIV epidemic underground thereby increasing the HIV risk," noted the university.

"These are the positions advocated by the UN, UNAIDS, WHO, PAHO, the international human rights communities and PANCAP (The Pan Caribbean Partnership against AIDS) which is the organization leading the regional response to the HIV epidemic," it added.

The university further explained that the community served by CHART had lost confidence in Professor Bain due to his controversial testimony and that was the reason he was fired.

On The Ground News Reports noted Wednesday, however, that members of the University of the West Indies community launched a protest calling Bain's dismissal "unjust."

"Several lecturers, medical doctors and students are now gathered outside the Vice Chancellor's office at the institution, with many of them stating that they are protesting Professor Bain's 'unjust dismissal,' and claim that he had a 'right to share medical information to a Court without threat of persecution and that all people have a right to receive such information from medical experts,'" said the report.

The Christian Post reached out to Bain for comment on Wednesday but he was unavailable. His church confirmed his elder status but declined to comment on his firing.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Dr. Jose Mathews says he’s paying the price for being a whistle-blower at the VA hospital in St. Louis.

He didn’t hold back as he told his story to KMOX.

Mathews was head of psychiatry at the VA before he came forward to say that doctors were treating only half the mental health patients they had the capacity to handle.

After, he says he was promptly removed from his position and specifically instructed not to contact any of the psychiatrists he was leading.

But even though he was re-located to a basement office, Mathews continues going to work at the VA as scheduled—but says there has been harassment from some co-workers.

“They’re sometimes mocking,” he says. “There are sometimes people who make it a point to come into my office and laugh. Seriously, this is not a joke.”

He points out it’s only a minority of his VA co-workers that seem to be taking pleasure from his predicament.

Mathews’ allegations have prompted a call for an investigation by Missouri Senators Blunt and McCaskill.

Mathews was a guest on the Charlie Brennan Show Tuesday morning.

GLORIFYING HOMOSEXUALITY: THE RISE OF GAY THEOLOGY

THE RISE OF GAYDEOLOGY

I was re-reading a message from someone who said he would never let his children read my books because he was afraid it would expose them to my value system, which he finds abhorrent. I hope I have made it clear, all along, that my “value system” (I don’t really like that term) is Christianity.

What this reader most objects to is my insistence that homosexual behavior is a grave sin because the Bible says so. But it has occurred to me that, if this person is old enough to be raising children–and taking them along with him to hang out with a “gay couple” who are his friends–then probably the value system he espouses didn’t even exist when he was born. My Christian standard, with its foundation upon Judaism, has been in place, unchanged, for thousands of years. His moral standard was created, as it were, in the blink of an eye.

Nevertheless, this very new notion that all sexual behavior is permitted, and that homosexuality and transgenderism (or whatever you want to call it) are especially worthy of esteem–this perverse and evil code has swept the Western world and carried off its ruling class, its pseudointelligentsia, its culture-shapers, and all those people willing to be shaped by culture.

This has happened with terrifying speed. The world has seen nothing like it since the rise of Islam–and we all know what a great blessing that turned out to be.

Will we be stuck with this for the next 1,500 years? Or will it wither up and blow away as suddenly as it descended on us? God grant the latter.

In the meantime, what I have come to call “Gaydeology” has all the earmarks of a new false religion, as fierce and intolerant as Islam; and we have not yet seen the worst of it.

But the word of the Living God shall stand, and Christ shall reign. May God give us strength.

ATTORNEY: SCHOOL FIBBED ABOUT BIBLE BAN

ATTORNEY: SCHOOL FIBBED ABOUT BIBLE BAN

A legal team protecting the rights of a student to read the Bible during his class reading time claims officials in the Broward County school district in Florida lied about their ban on the Bible.

A second demand letter from the Liberty Institute on behalf of the student revealed that while the school apparently was claiming the Bible was disallowed because it wasn’t on a list of approved reading sources for an advanced readers’ program, it actually was.

“One of the reasons you cited on the phone for the ban on the Bible during Accelerated Reader Program time was that the Bible is not included on the Accelerated Reader Program list of approved books that have corresponding online tests,” said the letter from Hiram Sasser, director of litigation for the institute, to Marilyn McNamara of the Broward County schools.

“In fact, you flatly stated that there is no tests or quiz for the Bible within the Accelerated Reader Program,” he wrote.

Even “assuming your factual assertion that the ban did take place during Accelerated Reader Program time, Giovanni Rubeo and other students in the school district have a constitutional right to read the Bible as part of the Accelerated Reader Program as well,” he pointed out.

“Enclosed, you will find eleven (11) pages of books listed on the Accelerated Reader Program’s website. These represent but a few of the ‘wide range of books’ from which students, like our client, could choose to read. Among the titles, you will note, are the following: Acts, Amos, Chronicles 1, Chronicles 2, Colossians, Corinthians 1, Corinthians 2, Daniel, Deuteronomy, Ecclesiastes,” the letter said.

“As you would imagine, each of these titles – these are merely the titles listed on the first of eleven pages of search results – are books contained within the Holy Bible and of the very same translation (NIV) that our client brought to class on April 8, 2014. Moreover, we note that each of these books are rated for ‘Middle Grade’ readers, meaning the same are suitable for readers between the fourth and eighth grades,” the lawyers explained.

See the WND Superstore choice of Bibles and helps, including “1599 Geneva Bible,” “How to Study the Bible,” “The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Bible,” “King James Commentary Bible” and “Forbidden Book: The History of the English Bible.”

“Each title provides the coveted Accelerated Reader points for students like Giovanni to earn credit. And, each title has pre-written online quizzes for students to take when they finish reading the same,” the letter said.

The issue arose earlier this month, reported WSVN-TV in Miami, when
fifth-grader Giovanni Rubeo wanted to read his Bible during the free reading time at Park Lakes Elementary but was forbidden by his teacher.

The teacher left a voice mail for the student’s father, saying: “Good morning, Mr. Rubeo, Mrs. Thomas. Giovanni called you because I asked him to. I noticed that he has a book, a religious book in the classroom. He is not permitted to read those books in my classroom. He said if I told him to put it away you would say not to do that. So please give me a call, I need to have some understanding on direction to him about the book he’s reading as opposed to the curriculum for public schools. Mrs. S. Thomas. Thank you. Have a wonderful day. Bye-bye.”

Paul Rubeo, the father, picked up on the constitutional issues immediately.

“When someone’s civil rights and constitutional rights are being violated, and that happens to be your child, I’m sure that any one of you would do that for someone you love.”

The district then mailed a letter stating that religious materiel is permitted before or after class. Two weeks later, officials admitted that the Bible was OK during “free reading” as well.

But the school had been adamant the student’s Bible reading was during a special reading program time, and the program didn’t allow it.

“Broward County Public Schools justified censoring the Bible because they thought it was not part of the Accelerated Reader Program, but, in fact, the Bible and other religious books about the Jewish, Buddhist and other faiths are included,” said Jeremiah Dys, Liberty Institute senior counsel.

“It is unlawful viewpoint discrimination under the First Amendment for the school district to selectively censor religious books from the large list of books available to students in the Accelerated Reader Program,” he said.

Liberty Institute said it has given Broward County Public Schools until May 19 to lift the ban on the Bible and other religious books and to take steps to inform classroom officials that they cannot ban the Bible from the Accelerated Reader Program.
