Sharia Outlawed by Just 1 Vote in This Southern State

Screen Shot 2015-03-24 at 11.25.54 AMThe United States of America is to be governed under the guiding principles of only one doctrine, the U.S. Constitution.

It’s crazy how often people forget that.

But with the growth of Islam in the U.S., lawmakers are continually forced to remind people that the Constitution supersedes all other kind of laws, even religious.

This is especially true of Sharia law.

And in Texas it was only by the slimmest of margins that Sharia was relegated to a position of no-consequence as a city council vote barely passed 5-4 to uphold the Constitution as the supreme law of the land.

Joe Saunders reported on the historic vote:

Cheers erupted in the city council meeting room in Irving, Texas, last week as the city passed an ordinance to make sure foreign laws would never replace America’s or Texas laws – but the city’s Muslim activists weren’t happy.

That’s because the 5-4 vote supported a proposed state law that was inspired by the establishment of a Muslim tribunal in Irving that supporters say is meant only to help local Muslims use Islamic laws to settle domestic disputes, but critics say is the first step to getting Sharia law implemented in Texas.

“The elephant in the room in that it’s the anti-Sharia bill,” one activist told the local CBS station.

Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne is an outspoken opponent of the Muslim tribunal and the possibility of Sharia law in the United States, but stressed during Thursday’s council meeting that the ordinance did not mention Sharia by name, or any other religion.

The point, she said, was that American and state civil laws reign supreme – and no foreign law has standing.

“Respect them, obey them, embrace them,” she said.

While the United States was founded on principles that allowed people to practice their own religion, nowhere does it allow room for laws that are practiced in theocratic institutions.

What Muslims don’t want to admit is Sharia isn’t just an inner faith law system. It’s a law system that works hand in hand with government.

As soon as Sharia creeps its way into the law politic, well, then you’ve got yourself a Taliban or a Caliphate.

And no free country can be ruled under these laws, no matter how hard they argue it isn’t true.

Good on Texas for doing the right thing.
