At CPAC today Senator Tim Scott gave a moving speech centered around his plan for America that he has labeled the “opportunity agenda.” He used his own life as the example for his plan and told the audience how he had failed a string of courses in High School before his mentor found him and taught him that education was the answer to poverty.

It is precisely for this reason that Senator Scott believes that education should be the parents’ choice – “because when the parents have choice… the kids have choice.”

The Democrats in government want to trap our poor kids in failing schools because allowing them the opportunity to succeed means that the liberal system of education is a failure. The only way to give our children (all of our children) the opportunity to get a quality education is to give their families “choice.” If families can remove their children from failing schools and place them in good schools, it will exponentially improve their opportunities for success.

“We need to set free all of the kids in our country – through school choice.”

Not only did Senator Scott preach the virtues of school choice, he also extolled the opportunities that learning skilled labor can provide. “We have four million unfilled jobs. We need to prepare our kids to fill those jobs." Discovery Channel’s Mike Rowe would love Tim Scott’s agenda because he believes we need to be preparing our children not just with education, but also with skilled labor for the workforce – because not every child should go to college.

With Senator Scott at the helm Republicans could actually reform our education system and help some very needy children. We need more Tim Scott’s in Washington – a lot more.
