About the Author
David J. Trowbridge (PhD, University of Kansas) is an assistant professor of history and director of African and African American Studies at Marshall University. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on civil rights, race and ethnicity, and military and diplomatic history. His favorite course to teach remains the introductory US history survey. In these courses he is able to witness the transformation as students discover their own love of history (much to their surprise). Dr. Trowbridge has published several articles in leading academic journals, including the Journal of African American History. He is also the editor of several books about local history and is the author of a forthcoming book entitled Jim Crow in the Land of John Brown that explores the origins of racial segregation in the Midwest. In addition to his academic career, Dr. Trowbridge is a veteran of the United States Air Force, a former firefighter, and a true believer in the power of education to enrich lives and strengthen the nation.
