ISSUES: Jane Robbins, Tanya Ditty and Senator Fran Milar

ABOUT THE SHOW

 

This first show on the AP U.S. History (APUSH) has two parts. Some of you will recognize Brant Frost, who volunteered to be the moderator. I appreciate Brant's willingness to step out on this effort. Brant served alongside me on the Georgia GOP Resolutions Committee. I enjoyed working alongside him then and hope this project will be another way that we can serve our Republican Party and the citizens ofGeorgia.

ACTION POINTS TO CONSIDER

(1) Attend the hearing at the Capitol on Wednesday, February 18th, starting at 1:00 PM.

(2) Make calls to the Senate and House Education Committee members to support SR 80.

PART I

This segment runs approximately 30 minutes and provides the grassroots perspective and the academic perspective on the College Board's new Framework for APUSH.

Guests

Larry Krieger is a renowned author and educator whose books and workshops have helped thousands of students achieve high scores on SAT and AP tests. He  has taught AP classes for over 35 years, specializing in AP U.S. History. He holds a B.A. degree in history and his M.A.T. in social studies education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his M.A. degree in sociology from WakeForest University.

Jane Robbins is a senior fellow with the American Principles Project, an organization dedicated to the restoration of our nation’s founding principles. She and Larry Krieger first sounded the alarm on the College Board’s new, revisionist AP US History course by writing and speaking extensively on the issue. She has also testified about the problem before the state board of education in three states. She holds her undergraduate degree from Clemson Universityand her law degree fromHarvard Law School.

Tanya Ditty is the State Director for Concerned Women for America of Georgia and a veteran educator with over 22 years of professional experience who has taught AP U.S. History, AP Government, and AP Economics. She writes and delivers professional learning classes, workshops, and online courses for face-to-face, online, and blended model environments. She has been a co-presenter at the Blackboard World Conference and Georgia Educational Technology Conference. She currently teaches high school classes for a virtual school. She holds a BBA from theUniversity of Texas atArlington and her M.Ed. from the University ofWest Georgia.

 

PART II

This segment runs approximately 15 minutes. Senator Fran Millar and Senator William Ligon discuss their views on the new APUSH Framework and their efforts on Senate Resolution 80. Although these two senators are still on opposite sides in the Common Core debate, they are in agreement that APUSH is filled with bias from the left.

Senator William Ligonwas first elected to the Georgia State Senate in November 2010. He represents Brantley,Camden, Glynn, and McIntosh counties and portions of CharltonCounty. His Republican colleagues elected him to serve as Caucus Chairman for the Senate Majority during the 2015-2016 legislative term. He is Vice-Chairman of Judiciary (Non-Civil). He serves as an Ex-Officio member of the Committee on Assignments and the Rules Committee. He is a member of the Appropriations, Judiciary, Ethics, and Health and Human Services committees. In his freshman term, Sen. Ligon was Vice-Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. Formerly, Senator Ligon served as the Municipal Court Judge for the City of Brunswick for 16 years. He has practiced law for 27 years and is the Senior Partner of Ligon, Lindberg, and Lanier, P.C. Senator Ligon earned his law degree from MercerUniversity’s School ofLaw and his undergraduate in history at Valdosta State College.

Senator Fran Millar was elected to the State Senate for Georgia’s 40th District in 2010. He represents portions of DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties. Prior to his election to the Senate, he first served several terms in the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2010. Senator Millar currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Higher Education Committee andSecretary of Senate Health and Human Services Committee. He is also a member of the Education and Youth, MARTOC, and Rules committees. He formerly served as Chairman of the Senate Education and Youth Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in history fromWest Virginia WesleyanCollege and works as an independent consultant.
