I Have Read The Quran, I Did Not Find ‘a Religion of Peace’

I Have Read The Quran, I Did Not Find ‘a Religion of Peace’

Islam - Behead Infidels
Islam was front and center in the news recently with two “viral” stories. In one, Ben Affleck and Bill Maher went at each other during an episode of Maher’s HBO T.V. show. Maher stated (I believe correctly), that much of the world’s current violence can be laid at the feet of Islam and Affleck retorted with nothing but the kumbaya, knee jerk, “Islam is peaceful in general” lefty talking points.

In another, Jennifer Williams, a blond, blue-eyed all American young woman from Texas tweeted about her recent conversion to Islam and as a result (and much to her chagrin), ended up getting marriage proposals from wealthy Saudis and from…. surprise!…some ISIS members. Regarding her conversion, she professed: “When I read the Qur’an, I find a God who is beneficent, who is merciful, and who cherishes mankind. I find a religion that encourages independent thought, compassion for humanity, and social justice.”

It is believed that many millions of Muslims have never read the Quran. Many in the Islamic world simply cannot due to being illiterate. Millions who live in countries ruled by Islamic law (or are comprised of predominantly Islamic communities) grow up either listening to the Quran through oral tradition or have read it by requirement. Those countries, (many located in the Middle East) usually have Sharia law in place. Why? Because the people there have read the Quran and are following the edicts within. The more you read the Quran, the more Sharia law makes sense. The Quran is the foundation of Sharia Law.

I would guess that a great number of American Muslims have not read the entire Quran. I have serious doubts Ms. Williams has read the Quran. I know that most people that have something to say about Islam or its followers have not read it either. If you are one of them, I urge you to read it, all 114 “Surahs”. When reading it, be aware of the concept of “abrogation”. Abrogation means that a later verse in the Quran overrules an earlier verse.

With respect to Ms. Williams, I do not know what “God” she is referring to in the “Quran” that she read that is: “beneficent, who is merciful, and who cherishes mankind” or how by reading the Quran, she encountered “a religion that encourages independent thought, compassion for humanity, and social justice.” I would love to get a copy of THAT Quran because it in no way resembles the Quran recognized by neither the Islamic world nor the version I have read…..twice.

This is what I found after reading the Quran: a “God”, (Allah) that promotes, through His Prophet Mohammad, a message of war, violence and anger. It is full of vitriolic relentless tirades against all unbelievers, but preaches a special kind of very explicit hate and condemnation towards Jews and Christians. In fact, it completely voids and nullifies their religions and curses any Jew or Christian who believes in the texts of the Old and New Testaments. It urges and calls for war and fear mongering and complete subjugation of the world to Islam. Yes, Ms. Williams, there will be Peace in the world according to the Quran: when everyone in it converts, believes and submits to Islam.

There are scores of passages like these:

  • “Those (Christians and Jews) are the ones whom Allah has cursed, and he whom Allah curses, you will not find for him any helper.” (Surah 4:52)
  • “And from those who call themselves Christians, We took their covenant, but they have abandoned a good part of the Message that was sent to them. So We planted amongst them enmity and hatred till the Day of Resurrection, and Allah will inform them of what they used to do.” (Surah 5:14)
  • “Cut off the hand of the thief, male or female, as a recompense for that which they committed, a punishment by way of example from Allah. And Allah is All-Powerful, All-Wise.” (Surah 5:38)
  • “O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as your friends; they are but friends to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as friends, then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are wrongdoers.” (Surah 5:51)
  • “So when they (the Jews) exceeded the limits of what they were prohibited, We said to them: ‘Be you Apes… despised and rejected.”(Surah 7:166)
  • “And fight them (the unbelievers) until there is no more disbelief, and the religion will all be for Allah Alone (in the whole of the world.)”(Surah 8:39)
  • “Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book,(Jews & Christians) until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.” (Surah 9:29)
  • So when you meet those who disbelieve in battle, strike their necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure their bonds, and either confer favor afterwards or ransom them until the war lays down its burdens. That is the command. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them Himself, but He ordered armed struggle to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allah – never will He waste their deeds. (Surah 47:4)

You will not believe how many verses like the above are contained in the Quran. When I say this is but a very small sample, I mean it! Notice that I have quoted verses from only six “Surahs”. Three from “Surah 5: Al-Ma’idah (the Table). There are 114 Surahs.

Are there some verses callings for peace and mercy? Sure, but keep in mind that earlier verses in the Quran are “abrogated” by the later verses. The vast majority of the verses that reference mercy, peace, charity, forgiveness, rewards, gifts and beneficence are bestowed only upon “believers”.

Keep in mind those who adhere to Islam worldwide follow not only the Quran, but the “Sunnah” which is a way of life with rules and laws set forth on the basis of the teachings and practices of Mohammed. These are put forth in “Hadiths”. This is where Islamic law and politics intersect. The Sunnah and The Quran is what “Sharia Law” is based on and is practiced in many of the predominantly Islamic countries of the world.

So what about American Muslims? Well, I believe many would be considered “Muslim-lite” by most Muslims living under Islam outside the United States, particularly in the Middle East. I do not believe many of them would like very much being under and ruled by Sharia Law. I am also a defender of the Constitution, so I would defend their right to practice their religion as it is their inalienable right to do so as a citizen of this Republic, as put forth in the 1st Amendment.

It is not my goal to “attack” and disparage Muslims. Muslims are followers of Islam, but are individuals with free will and many do not follow, nor take the texts of the Quran literally. I am merely expounding my personal conclusions and analysis after reading and studying the Quran and the Sunna, (particularly “The Life of Mohammed”.)

I wonder how it would affect the world if all its literate inhabitants read the entire Quran. Perhaps this is too outlandish a goal. Perhaps if only all the members of the media, the Press and the punditry worldwide did, a sea of change on the ramifications of Islam and how it squares with a civilized society could occur.

[NOTE: I presume that the comment section of this post will be full of quasi-Muslim scholars trying to provide “context” of certain verses mentioned in the article through some sort of exegesis and there will be those who will comment that the Bible is full of quotes similar to these, so let me preemptively respond: I am a Christian. We are told and believe that Jesus Christ came and fulfilled the Law. I and other Christians live under a “New Testament”: that of Christ Jesus.]

Please share on Facebook and Twitter if you believe what the author says, that Islam is NOT a religion of peace.
