"Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s minister of propaganda, often said, “The bigger the lie, the more it will be believed.” President Obama’s ministry of propaganda has, until now, gotten away with this whopper: “Obamacare does not force taxpayers to fund abortion. The jig’s up. It does and everyone knows it. That includes Congress."

With his inspirational and unprecedented show of leadership on the floor of the U.S. Senate this past week, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, made hundreds of enemies in Washington.

But more importantly, he made millions of friends across America.

When you have both liberal Democrats and mealy-mouthed establishment RINOs (Republicans in name only) allying against you, you know you’ve got the bead over the beltway “good ol’ boys’” center-mass. Mr. Cruz emasculated, delightfully, Obama’s political yes-bots on both sides of the aisle.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., was both a sponsor of – and cheerleader for – Obamacare. That was, of course, because he evidently followed Nancy Pelosi’s obtuse advice “to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.”

Government Spending Spree Comes in Wake of Impending Shutdown

"The reason for their haste is a system set up by Congress that, in many cases, requires agencies to spend all their allotted funds by Sept. 30.

If they don’t, the money becomes worthless to them on Oct. 1. And — even worse — if they fail to spend the money now, Congress could dock their funding in future years. The incentive, as always, is to spend.

This same type of funding debacle goes on all over America in businesses that work off of this same budgetary model. Agencies and departments that are frugal do not Folger to save their money. They are forced to spend frivolously to be able to justify that same budget for the following year. This model promotes waste and punishes responsible spending. This happens every day in government and is taking place right under the nose of an impending government shutdown.

An evangelical group aimed at "restoring America to its Judeo-Christian heritage" through political action has sent out a mass email to over 10,000 pastors in the United States, encouraging them to take a proactive approach in having Christian-minded politicians elected to political office.

COMMON CORE: RIGHT OUT OF MAO'S PLAY BOOK

The whole question of Common Core has become quite the chatter and like most issues that concern American citizens, it has become a political ping-pong.  Suffice it to say, the Common Core Curriculum debate has educators, politicians, lobbyists and businesses on both sides.  The most distinct of the businesses is the enormous funding of the Bill Gates Foundation.  This would seem quite philanthropic until you realize that because of the computer based dynamic of Common Core, Gates stands to make billions of dollars.  Even though his foundation is subsidizing a large portion of this experiment in education, he is a businessman.  He is not going to lose money.

Is the Common Core Curriculum what it is advertised to be or is it an insidious method of propaganda to make our youth more compliant with a one size fits all cloning of a generation and beyond?  Where is the innate uniqueness of each child and the freedom to explore one's own interests, talents, strengths and abilities?  Is this a doomed for failure attempt to clone our children into "Stepford students" to be displayed as trophies?  Would we not be better served, as Americans, to let our youth blossom into the variety of person that is their bent, or do we really want robots?  The entrepreneurial spirit is conceived in the soil of individualism.

The author of the article states:

"Let me make this easy for you. Common Core standards is an across-the-board, pre-K to the end of your child’s education, system of teaching whereby every student is mandated to be taught the exact same thing and for all intents and purposes taught the exact same thing during the same period of time. In brief, it is a standard of education that creates automatons... did children learn more before Carter created the Department of Education, or after it? I would ask, what have the billions of tax dollars that have gone into public schools done to raise the level of accomplishment by students? I would remind you that, since the early 1980s, we have been told that all it takes is more money, and our children will be academic standouts. When, in reality, billions of dollars after billion of dollars have netted the same results — diminished student performance.

The argument for the “absolute need” of Common Core standards is they are the only way to prepare students for careers and college. Supposedly without Common Core standards our children will neither be college-ready nor career-ready. Pentagon Gives Leftist Groups Prime Spots at GTMO Trials If you've been reading my Weekly Updates for a while, you know that Judicial Watch has been extremely active monitoring terrorist military tribunals at Guantanamo Bay. In fact, JW staff has been on the ground at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (GTMO), on no less than 12 occasions to monitor key proceedings there, including the 2008 arraignment of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM), the 2011 arraignment of USS Cole bomber Bad al-Rahim al-Nassir and a number of KSM motion hearings in 2012 and 2013.  In fact, one of our attorneys, Ramona Cotca, has been there all this week.  Unfortunately, our regular participation may be about to change.

 

As first reported by our own blogger Irene Garcia: "In a startling about-face, the Obama administration is restricting exclusive access to Military Commission hearings in Guantanamo Bay to five leftist human rights groups that openly advocate for the terrorist defendants." In an official memorandum, issued on August 19, 2013, the Office of the Secretary of Defense listed the criteria by which organizations were selected for the privilege of monitoring GTMO proceedings. They must have a "stated mission to advance human rights through advocacy and respect for the law."

Here's the punch line. Take a look at the list of the five pre-approved leftist "non-governmental organizations" that will be given exclusive seats at the table for GTMO military commission proceedings: Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Human Rights First, the American Civil Liberties Union and the American Bar Association. Do you see any "rule of law" organizations on this list? I do not. Perhaps hoping to head-off any accusations of political favoritism, the OSD indicated in its original memo that the policy change was absolutely necessary due to"logistical limitations." But that still doesn't explain why all of the organizations they selected are radically left of center. And this is precisely the point I made in a letter of appeal sent to the Chief of Staff for the OSD, strongly objecting to the Department of Defense's new exclusion policy: I am writing to object in the strongest terms to your August 19, 2013 Non-Government Organization (NGO) Observer Selection Policy to observe commission proceedings at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (GTMO). The designation of Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Human Rights First, the American Civil Liberties Union and the American Bar Association as essentially "permanent observers" to Commission proceedings is not appropriate. These groups represent a narrow, extreme ideological view on terrorist detainee issues. These groups, which have been highly critical of the Office of Commissions and GTMO advocate policies at odds with views held by the vast majority of American citizens, whose tax dollars fund the operation of the Office of Commissions and GTMO. As you may well know, in some instances, persons affiliated with the five NGOs have served as legal counsel or political advocates for the terrorist detainees held at GTMO." I close the letter asking OSD to rescind the policy. Failing that, I appeal to OSD to at least reinstate Judicial Watch to the list of permitted observers so that a full range of views on terrorist detainee issues are represented. "Your proposed system could have the effect of freezing out any alternative voices from the NGO community, specifically those voices that have not served as legal and political advocates for terrorist detainees." You might be able to guess the type of response that came back. On September 3, 2013, I received a cut-and-pasted letter ripped from the original August 19 memo. The letter, sent under the signature of Military Commission Chief of Staff Michael Quinn, denies our request and reiterates that the five NGOs "were selected due to their ability to reach an international audience, their experience with international human rights in criminal trials and their stated mission to advance human rights through advocacy and respect for the law."   Of course, Judicial Watch fits all those criteria. Quinn ends by expressing appreciation for "Judicial Watch's interest in the conduct of military commissions" and invites JW to watch proceedings on closed-circuit television at Fort Meade, Maryland, if we don't make the cut for a trip to GTMO.   The Pentagon has yet to provide any response to our concern that they are giving five permanent "observer" seats to what in effect is the defense bar for terrorists.  Again, we're the only conservative organization that has, at great expense, participated as observers in these proceedings.  And now we've been told that we may not be invited to future 9/11 terrorist criminal proceedings there.    Let me boil this down. President Obama has stated on a number of occasions that he intends to shut GTMO down. He said it during his first presidential campaign. He said it again the day he took office. And he said it again as recently as May 2013.  Thus far, public opposition to the notion of releasing terrorists into the courts or onto the streets altogether, has prevented Obama from fulfilling this promise. In order to build his case, he needs to control the messaging coming out of the GTMO proceedings and persuade the public to adopt his anti-GTMO stance. The way to do that is to simply cherry-pick a group of "friendlies" to "monitor" and report on what takes place. It's as simple as that. This administration has demonstrated time and time again hostility to alternative viewpoints. And this is just another in a long line of examples. Judicial Watch will continue to protest this new policy while continuing our work to bring fairness and objectivity and, yes, "respect for the rule of law" to the efforts to monitor GTMO.  And we intend to do it live, not on television.

WHAT IS A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN IN REALITY, NOT HYPE?

What Happens During a Government “Shutdown”?

If President Barack Obama “shuts down” the government by vetoing a continuing resolution (CR) that funds all government operations with the exception of Obamacare, or the Senate fails to pass such a CR, crucial services will continue without interruption. That includes all services essential for national security and public safety—such as the military and law enforcement—as well as mandatory government payments such as Social Security and veterans’ benefits.

The key fact, as the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) itself has said, is that when there is a short-term lapse in appropriations, “the federal Government will not be truly ‘shut down’…because Congress has itself provided that some activities of Government should continue.” In fact, any claims that not passing a CR will result in a “shutting down” of the government “is an entirely inaccurate description” according to the DOJ.[1]

Such a lapse in funding would be neither catastrophic nor unprecedented, but it would pare down government services to those most essential for “the safety of human life or the protection of property.” That would not include the hundreds of billions of dollars in the federal budget that are constantly squandered and wasted on frivolous, unnecessary, and unneeded programs.

TOM DELAY: WHEN A MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON

In a "Roll Call" news article, Tom Delay heard the news that 

a Texas appeals court had thrown out his money-laundering conviction, ruling 2-1  ruling that the evidence was “legally insufficient.” Delay, a Texas Senator in 2006 was an embarrassment to a smug Republican Senate and was thrown under the bus because they weren't able to "manage" the outspoken Majority Whip. 

DeLay Was Praying When News of Overturned Conviction Came

It’s almost too good to be true that former Majority Leader Tom DeLay was a stone’s throw from Capitol Hill when he heard the news of his acquittal on Thursday morning.

The Texas Republican, who for the past decade has been battling charges of money laundering and faced a prison sentence, happened to be in town for a meeting with some “prayer warriors,” as he called them, to possibly collaborate on forming a new coalition to bring faith back into politics.

After having spent $12 million in legal fees, DeLay said on Thursday that despite his exoneration he had no plans to seek political office again. 

This is what is systematically happening to the "stand your ground" politicians who seek to "change" Washington.

School will allow mother to pray on campus

A New Hampshire mother is now returning to her children's high school campus to pray for students each morning after coming to an agreement with school officials. 

Lizarda Urena has come to an agreement with Concord High School officials: She can continue praying on the campus as long as she does it silently.

Matt Sharp of Alliance Defending Freedom says she has no problem with that, likening it to Jesus’ admonition that people shouldn’t prayer to show off for others.

“From her point of view," Sharp explains, "she just wanted to be there to be able to support and do what she can do, and what she believes as a Christian is important for her to do to continue to the school and to the safety of all the students there.”

OneNewsNow has reported on Urena's pursuit to prayer after bullets were found in a school restroom. 

Sharp gives school officials credit for reaching an agreement with this mother.

“So many school districts often cave in when they get threats from Freedom from Religion and other groups,” he notes.

He credits Concord school officials for supporting a “good neutral policy” that treats people equally.

“When schools have such policies, they have nothing to fear from these groups that seek to exclude religious parents from being able to express their faith,” says the ADF attorney.
