Obama Keystone decision will show he is the real obstructionist

Obama Keystone decision will show he is the real obstructionist

The Nebraska Supreme Court ruling to allow the route of the Keystone XL pipeline through the state removes one of the main reasons President Obama has not made a decision on whether or not to approve the construction project.

During his December press conference Obama said the State Department would use the results of the Nebraska Supreme Court as input for making its decision.

Now the fate of the construction project is in Obama’s hands.

With the court decision over, the process moves to the State Department and it will review the project to determine if the pipeline is in our national interest. The pipeline has already survived two State Department reviews.

Judging by the president’s comments, approval of the Keystone XL pipeline is highly unlikely.

Obama has downplayed the economic benefits of the project and most recently, the White House Press Secretary said the president would veto legislation that would give the project a green light.

By blocking the pipeline Obama will be ignoring the feelings of the majority of Americans. A poll conducted by Pew Research found 59 percent support construction of the pipeline that would transport crude from Canadian oil sands to Gulf Coast refineries.

Obama’s Keystone decision will expose the president as the obstructionist-in-chief.
